Focusing on Finances & Meritorious Service at the 2017 TxCFR Conference

Researchers, practitioners, undergraduates, and graduate students gathered on March 23-24, 2017 for our annual conference and learned more about family financial literacy. Ashley Parks, CFP, our opening keynote speaker, shared many practical tips for teaching children of all ages about the basics of money management and reinforcing healthy finances as a family value. Likewise, Karrol Kitt, Ph.D., CFP, our closing keynote speaker, also shared a wealth of practical advice from her personal family experience and her experience teaching and researching strategies for creating a financially healthy family. Both talks provided information that could be immediately used to help families making them especially useful for practitioners working on the front lines to serve Texas families. Conference attendees received additional tips during concurrent sessions that featured workshops, research presentations, and roundtable discussions with other professionals. During the last day of the conference, we presented the 2017 TxCFR Meritorious Service Award to Texans Care for Children in recognition of their tireless advocacy for children and families.
