2020 TxCFR Annual Conference

Conference Theme

Building Resilience Within All Families

 

The TxCFR Annual Conference brings together practitioners, researchers, and students who are working to promote healthy Texas families. Join us as we gather in Houston, Texas--one of the most diverse cities in the country--to discuss best practices and research focused on strengthening diverse family structures and systems. As professionals, we are committed to the wellbeing of ALL Texas families--not just those who fit one mold. TxCFR invites new and established professionals, practitioners, researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students to submit proposals. Submissions related to the theme, Building Resilience Within All Families, are especially encouraged, however, all topics related to family are welcome. Proposals may be submitted in the following categories:

 

Criteria for Proposals

Consistent with the standards outlined by the National Council on Family Relations, TxCFR proposals must 1) describe work that has progressed sufficiently to allow the presenter to prepare a polished presentation in time for the conference, 2) utilize a method of research or practice that is appropriate and rigorous, 3) be clearly written and logically organized, 4) demonstrate a strong connection to research, theory, policy, and/or practice, and 5) include 3 measurable objectives. Please see the sample objectives created by the National Council on Family Relations below for guidance.

Sample Objectives:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of the [insert title here] family program.

  • To analyze the [insert family policy here] from a family perspective.

  • To demonstrate return on investments families provide in health care.

Note that these are only examples. Your objectives do not need to include this specific wording.

Proposal Requirements

Before submitting your proposal, be sure you are prepared to include the following elements:

  1. Proposal title

  2. Author(s) and credentials

  3. Presentation format

  4. Proposal focus

  5. Short abstract (including your title and the 100-word synopsis of your proposal--do NOT list the authors of the proposal)

  6. Long proposal:

    1. Long proposals for professional submissions (Papers, Workshops, Roundtable Discussions, and Poster Presentations) must include the title, a summary of 500 - 1000 words, a maximum one pages of references, and an optional maximum of two pages of figures/tables--do NOT list the authors of the proposal. This will be used for blind review. Please submit a PDF file. Generally, the following components should be included in long proposals for professional submissions:

      1. Method of Research or Practice

      2. Analysis and Preliminary Results/Conclusions

      3. Implications for Policy/Research/Practice

      4. Aims/Goals​

  7. An agreement that at least one author will attend the conference and present if your proposal is accepted. Please note that any author or co-author who plans to attend the conference must register and pay the registration fee.

Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Earlier submissions will receive earlier review. Submissions received by December 1st will be assigned a decision no later than January 1st (or January 6th for student poster submissions). Submissions received later will be assigned a decision as soon as possible. 

Submit Your Proposal

All proposals will be peer-reviewed in a blind review process to determine acceptance. If accepted to present, any author that is presenting must register for the TxCFR 2020 Conference. Before you begin completing your submission form, please have your short abstract and your long abstract prepared in MS Word/DocX or PDF files ready. If you have multiple proposals to submit, please submit each one separately. Please do NOT use a phone, mobile device, or tablet to complete this proposal. Please use a computer
